Merry Christmas.

I hope everyone's had a great Christmas day. I had a pretty good one. The new comic goes up tomorrow. It's a good one and trust me, something actually happens after this page. :) More next time.

Happy Christmas (Yoko is Over)

Well, tomorrow is Christmas Eve (comic is still going up!) and seeing as I'm a retail wage slave AND I'll be at work tomorrow I thought it appropriate to say a few words on the subject of Christmas in retail. I'd like to say a few words to all of you. Not as people, but as customers. I'd like to remind you that during this time of "joy" and "peace" and "harmony" that there is a simple rule to remember. You get better service when you are a better person. You seen, people complain about the service in stores during this time of year. They say that we're rude and short and that we act like we don't want to give you the time of day. Well, that is mostly true, but you get what you give. Every year we are treated like something worse than farm animals. We are treated like dirt on Christmas Eve because you decided to wait until the last minute and thought you'd be all right. You get angry because we sold out of that new toy in mid-Dec...

Updates and Updates.

First, comments are down on the site due to bandwidth issues so if you'd like to comment, you can head over to the Drunk Duck mirror site , or you can post in the forums . I strongly suggest the forums so they'll be active! Go on! Register! They won't bite! Hey folks! Big, big, big, big, big thank you to JT and Scott for getting the quact running again on my site. You guys always go above and beyond for me here and I appreciate it. If you haven't heard the news, Errant Apprentice has been one of the featured comics over on Drunk Duck this week. Hits went through the roof over there! Big thanks to all the new readers. Anyway, the update goes live tomorrow morning here and on DD so check it out then. I'm off. Later.

Nightgig problems.

Currently there are some problems here at Nightgig. While this is going on I'm unable to update Errant Apprentice on this site. Until the problems are solved you'll have to go to my Drunk Duck Mirror Site to get the updates. Schedule is the same. Hopefully Scott and JT and the guys will have this worked out soon. For once, I have faith in the admins of a webcomic site! Imagine that! Anyway, the comic did in fact update so go check it out.

Extra update on Wednesday!

That's right! I got the comic done very very early for Sunday so you all get an extra update! I don't know if I can keep this up considering what may be coming up but I'll update the comic as often as possible. Tuesday and Sunday are still my update days, but if I can get more done in a week I will. No promises though.

Tuesday is coming. Did you bring your jacket?

Update goes live in the morning and I pose the same question here as on Drunk Duck. People have shown an interest in EA going color. I decided the first two pages would go color like they do in some manga, but my plan has been to go back to B&W with page three. I think that B&W has a certain character to it and I know several others feel these way. Now, I pose the question to you. Should Errant Apprentice go color or stay black and white? Please respond to this post and leave your thoughts.

Update: Issue 2 Begins

Well, if anyone missed it, Errant Apprentice Issue 2's cover went up and apparently got a mention on the gigcast! Thanks JT and Scott for all the promotion! This should be an interesting issue as we find Terry in Biloxi, Mississippi in the aftermath of Katrina and looking for a magic user. Who will he find? Will things go easily or will he fight? Should he have stopped at Ward's for lunch on the way down? Probably not, but the answers to all this and more will be coming in Issue 2: Mystic Lipstick!

Just a quick test.

Issue Two and an update on life.

Hi again folks. Well, issue one of Errant Apprentice has ended and issue two will start with the cover Tuesday. The last panel of this issue was in color because I really wanted it to be. I couldn't see it as a black and white panel. I hope you'll all like the next one though. As for life, I found out last week that I'm a diabetic. Not too serious right now. I just need to change my diet and check my blood sugar once a week. I've gotten a bunch of healthy food so hopefully I'll be around doing comics for years to come. Other than that I don't have much going on so I'll close for now. More later.

I LIVE!!!

Hello everybody! Tomorrow morning page 21 of the Errant Apprentice goes live. I've finally gotten back on track since I finished the Nightgig book last week. I'll have the next page up Sunday so the new update schedule will be Tuesday and Sunday. Make a note. Anyhoo, more later. And I promise those Rodney pics will be coming at some point.

Update for the week of 11-05-2006

Errant Apprentice is done for tomorrow so the update is on schedule. I'm sorry for not getting another page done this week, but I'm still plugging away on the Nightgig book. I've been watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 a lot this weekend so everything is a little more cynical to me at the moment. Because of that I'm going to cut this update a bit short. More as it developes. - Kev.

Dialect.

Image
Since I've started doing Errant Apprentice exclusively I've noticed something. "Ah hate writin' in these here durned dialects!" I suppose I went a little overboard with it for Ernest and Dottie but I think I can get away with most people just droppin' the "G" that end some words and it will still sound sort of southern since they live in rural Mississippi. Which brings me to something. Unlike some people, I actually like living in Mississippi. It's really a great state to travel in. One of my favorite hobbies is about once a year getting "lost" in the middle of no where and seeing what we can find. For instance, this is Rodney, Mississippi. Actually, it's Brumfields Grocery in Rodney and it's delightfully run down and has so much character it practically speaks to me. The gas pump has warnings about how the chemicals are only for use in automobiles. You just don't find that these days. The whole place is actually a ghost tow...

Major Sweatshop Announcement.

Ladies and gentlemen, I've been thinking a lot lately. You see, for the last while I haven't been having fun doing the comics. It's been work and I hate work. Today I was nearly ready to call it quits. No more web comics. Then I stopped myself. "What's really bother you, Kev?" I asked myself. Well, it turns out that my heart hasn't been in part of it. I've been stretched too thin lately and it's been killing me, my ability to draw, and my ability to create. So what am I going to do about this? What is it that I thought? For the forseeable future, the Sweatshop will have one on going series. I will try my best to keep it updated once to twice a week. Thursdays and Mondays. That series is "The Errant Apprentice". Every time I work on Munki's Tales and Geebo it's like I'm trying to suck an orange through a straw to get at the juices I need to get the pages done. When I do EA it's like it flows in a river in a way that I have...

No updates till Tuesday.

Sorry folks. Saturday I was rather sick and then Sunday I had to work so no comics. I'll just pick back up Tuesday. Sorry guys. Dropped the ball again.

Weekly Update type thingy.

Hello! Well, I've just finished tomorrow's Munki's Tales comic. We're at page 12. This is moving much faster and I can keep track much better. Motivation is still a bit of a problem at the moment but it's mostly due to stress at work. I figure things will be okay soon. That, or I may have a psychotic episode. Whichever comes first. Also, if anyone reading this has anything to do with Delirium, I've got an article ready to go up since Saturday, but I feel like an ass tracking people down and asking for it to be approved. I'm starting to consider printing The Errant Apprentice through LuLu or something. I'd have some bonus material in there of course, but I want to sort of gauge interest. Expect some changes to the list of links on the top of the page in the next couple of weeks. Not this weekend though. I have to work again. Well, that's it for now. More next time.

News and such.

Image
I updated Munki's Tales again today and now that I'm on the new schedule I'm actually getting somewhere. This makes me happy as compaired to before. Errant Apprentice continues and will update in the morning. It seems like everytime I think about switching it to color I do a page that makes me change my mind. I'm happy with it right now. Also, I'm starting to draw the majority of my comics at home. I don't know why this change has happened but I'm liking it more this way. Maybe it's the fact that I'm sitting at my own desk. It feels right. I added a tray and clamp to it so I can hold my crap somewhere while it's tilted and I can keep a page held up so I can work on the bottom of it without a problem. Scott McCloud has a new book out. It's called "Making Comics" and unlike his last one this is funny, educational, and not full of crack pot ideas and ego. This one is a lot more like "Understanding Comics". I got i...

The Big Poop! A Schedule Change

So, here we are on the eve of another Munki's Tales update and I have so rather important news reguarding the update schedule. From here on in I'm going to concentrate on one story at a time for the color series. Errant Apprentice will continue to update on Mondays, but for now you'll get nothing but Munki until the issue is finished on Wednesdays and Sundays. After that I'll pick back up on Geebo and finish that issue on the same days. Then I'll switch back to Munki, then Geebo, and so on and so on. Why am I doing this? Simply put, confusion. It's getting hard for me to concentrate on a specific storyline and keep the narritive straight. I hate to say that I put too much on my plate but it's looking that way. I hope you'll all understand and keep reading anyway. Thanks for your understanding.

Terry and the Multiverse at Large.

So, tomorrow Geebo updates and with it the second page of the Errant Apprentice's cameo. I had fun doing Dash in the last bit, but something special seems to have come out with this one. Probably because I love EA so much and I think Terry is my favorite character I've ever made. There's a sadness and a strength in him that I admire a lot. There's no angst in what he does. There's no guilt that drives him to do what he does. There's no fatal flaw in him. He is completely capable of doing what he has to do. The fatal flaw is in the world he was born into. He's a knight and knights are feared and hated by many, but it doesn't stop him. He's a hero. Recognition doesn't matter to him. Money isn't important. He lives by the Peace and Truce of God (PToG) even when others of his order ignore it. He's the kind of person who makes others go that extra mile and try to be the best they can just from meeting him. I can't tell you guys how much I...

Sunday, bloody Sunday.

I'm working tomorrow. This means no Errant Apprentice update this week. I probably could have hammered one out today and had it ready, but it would have felt rushed and not turned out very well. I'm just going to write it off and do full updates next week. I'm not terribly pleased about working tomorrow. It's basically being asked to come in and do someone else's job since they don't seem to be capable of doing it themselves. Not my favorite thing to do. I can think of better ways to spend my Sundays, like counting the hair on my stomache. It's not like I'm getting over time for this. I have to leave an hour early everyday to get rid of the overtime. Ugh. Other than that there's not much to report. GEEBO IS UPDATING THOUGH. CHECK SUNDAY MORNING!! -Kev.

Correction.

See, this is why you shouldn't blog while taking medication. The Errant Apprentice update is on MONDAY! Which is today. I'm still on schedule, just sort of high when I made the last post. Sorry for the mix up.

General informations.

Hi folks. I'll have an Errant Apprentice comic up tomorrow as scheduled. I'll also have updates for the rest of my stuff on schedule except for NEXT Monday's EA. I have to work that Sunday so I won't have a chance to work on it. My health decided to take a nose dive this week. My doctor seems to think I'm coming down with another early stage of bronchitis. Fun. I only got two pages of my book stuff done so I'll be working on that as time permits. Anyhoo, more Wednesday unless I think of anything else. Kev.

One Week Hiatus.

Okay, I hate to do it, but I need to take this next week off. No comics will update for that week. I've got eight pages of story to do for the Nightgig book and as it stands I haven't had a chance to work on them. Next week I'm going to start and then sometime in November or October I'll take another week and finish it up. Sorry about this folks, but I need some time. Thanks for your understanding.

9-6-2006

I'm sick. No way around it. I am sick. I did get Munki updated last night, but I had to take a nap half way through and that's just wrong. I'm going to work on Geebo tomorrow. I need rest. In other news I'd like to say hello to any new readers out there that we picked up during the ad that ran on Girly . I hope you'll enjoy the comics. That being said, I'll see you guys when I feel better. Updates will continue as usual. -Kev.

A Few Words on Geebo

Let me say a few things on the current storyline in Geebo for those who may be confused. This story is not about Josh for the most part right now. It is the story of O'tan Thogas. As stated in the last issue, he has begun to awaken and is looking for a way back into the multiverse. ANY way. The characters you meet in this issue are possible ways in. Currently we're seeing Dash Kameku from David Davis' Cosmic Dash . Dave and I are going in an interesting direction story-wise with the idea of an expanded universe. One where characters from our different series can interact with one another. Dash just turns up as a guest in this one because if anyone in the Dash universe could be O'tan, it would be Dash himself. That being said we're going to see at least two other characters before we get back to the storyline proper and the follow up to last issue's events. There. Hope that helps clear things up a bit. -Kev.

Wednesday and Infinity.

Ladies and Gentlemen, inspiration has once again reared it's ugly head and taken a bit out of my ass. I was doing some reading and I have a great idea for the direction of Munki's Tales now. Speaking of, it updates tonight. I was reading the story of the Monkey King and (don't worry. No DBZ related stuff here!) suddenly saw some similarities. I also realized the direction that I want to take it. I can get the character into a good groove and keep him interesting. That being said, keep reading. I think you may find it interesting.

Holy Crap! General Update!!

Well, first off, big thanks to Josh L. for getting back to me about adverizing on his comic Girly . Now, if some of the other people I've emailed would be so kind. . . Anyhoo, Geebo updated Sunday and Errant Apprentice updated today. Munki goes up Wednesday as usual. I should probably start saying "regular schedule applies" or something. There may be another site redesign coming up in the future, but nothing's definite on that yet. One last point to bring up. We now have Google Ads on the site. I hate to do this, but a cheap way for you to help me make some cash would be to click on them. Don't feel obligated, but it would eventually help me out some. -End of Line.

State of Sweatshop Address 8/26/06

Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is Kevin Hayman. I'd like to thank you all for coming, and now we will get down to business. As some of you are aware, here at Sweatshop Studios our biggest export is entertainment in the form of the "web cartoons" that the kids seem to be so into these days. We currently provide one completed comic known as "Kota's World" and are producing three series concurrently. They are Geebo, The Errant Apprentice, and Munki's Tales. Did you see that? "Tales"? That's a pun! I understand that humor can be very effective in these sorts of things. Now, as of our last check with the traffic department, we are currently pulling in around 800 visitors a month. My advisors tell me that ranks just above several websites about Martians invading Newark, New Jersey and below several "My Little Pony" fan sites. To attempt to draw more traffic we are actively searching for sites to advertise on that will actually respond to...

Oops!

I forgot to upload Errant Apprentice this morning! I went ahead and uploaded it when I got home. Sorry for the delay. Head in and take a look.

Geebo: Featuring Cosmic Dash

Today's comic, and the next four or so pages of Geebo are special. They feature Dave Davis' Cosmic Dash characters. Let me just say how much fun it is to draw someone else's characters sometimes. It's a challenge and it let's me stretch my muscles so to speak. Not to mention I get to write someone with different reactions and such. Other than that there isn't a lot going on I guess. The new schedule is working out better than I expected andI have a few projects on the side. I have a guest spot for Tao of Geek I have to get done today and one for Cosmic Dash that I still need to finish drawing. I have to get a banner for Delirium done and some form of Nightgig banner. Mind you, I need dimensions for both of those, so JT and HPK, just let me know the sizes and I'll hope on it as quick as possible. I'm also working on an image for a DVD menu were doing. It's a compilation of short films we've shot over the last eight or so years and I'm putting...

Updates for the week.

Munki will have updated Wednesday morning. Errant Apprentice went up Monday morning. Ya know, for some reason I feel a desire to start a forth series, but I do believe I'm going to have to let that slide for now. Since Geebo will be the first of these to end I'll start another one then, but you don't have to worry. Geebo will be going on for a pretty good little while. Not as long as Kota's World mind you, but long enough to have a real ending. It's funny. Everytime I think I'm going to give up on Morphis something happens to make me come back to it. I think that if I go at it this time I can get it right. But, as I said, that will come later. Also, go to The GigCast and listen to the one for Wednesday when it goes up. There's lots of guests since it's the one year anniversery! And a certain artist you know dropped by for a visit. Anyhoo, more later!

The new site.

Well, this is the new look for now. I tried to do something slick like what HPK had over at Studio Blu before the current version went up. Unfortunitely things kept turning up in random spots around the table, which is odd because I've never had those sorts of problems dealing with tables. Ah well. This will do for now until I figure out what I was doing wrong. Also, for those who don't read the forums, the new update schedule is as follows: Monday - The Errant Apprenctice Wednesday - Munki's Tales Sunday - Geebo You got that? Good. Now don't forget it. Once again, huge thanks to HPK for getting this thing set up in the first place. Till later! - Kev

News is here!

Okay, big thank you to Dave Davis for setting this up for me. I owe him my first born. AGAIN. Now, the news will be here from now on and it should cut down on my habit of not posting news often. I'll also be able to effectively get update info to you folks now. I'll have to redesign the site, of course, but I'll get that done as I can. More later!
